Leave it empty to begin now. This is your computer's clock; the contract stores it as a UTC timestamp and refuses anything in the past.
Read straight out of the contract — it keeps its sales in a public array, so this is a state read and not a scan of the chain's history. The price updates in your browser from the same arithmetic the contract runs; the number you are charged is the contract's.
Buying pays the seller directly and sends the shares to you in the same transaction. You may take any part of a lot; a fraction costs that fraction of the asking price, rounded up.
